Methodology & Capabilities
The Inventions Factory has recently made strategic investments in machinery, to provide our clients with the ability to not only swiftly produce prototypes, but also to provide low volume manufacturing services, which enables inventors to launch their product with small scale manufacturing, in a cost-effective way, to start off commercialisation.
Our workshop boasts an array of equipment, including an injection moulding machine, laser cutter, CNC machine and a variety of 3D printers with capabilities extending beyond those of traditional 3D printers.
This forward-looking initiative is aimed at providing our clients with an expanded array of options, enhanced versatility, and improved cost-effectiveness as they transform their innovative ideas into reality.
Our Equipment
We have extensive experience with 3D modelling and CAD software and our workshop boasts an array of Prusa 3D printers. With the recent incorporation of the Form 3, 3D printer from Formlabs, we empower our clients with the ability to swiftly prototype and produce small batches of intricate components with exceptional precision and surface finish.
Simultaneously, the integration of the TRAVIN TP1 Injection Moulding Machine ensures efficient production of plastic components, maintaining precision and consistency in every iteration.
We also have 3 Bambu Labs printers, for very fast 3D printing and have an 'infinite belt' printer from Crealty for printing long items.
These advancements reinforce our commitment to offering comprehensive solutions, enabling our clients to navigate the product development process with greater efficiency, flexibility, and a cost-effective approach.
The Inventions Factory continues to position itself at the forefront of innovation, providing a dynamic platform for turning creative concepts into tangible, market-ready products.

Methodology
We focus on researching and creating your new inventions, and helping to launch your products.
Essentially the three key things to aim for are:
- Make sure it is new
- Make sure it works
- Make sure it is yours
We provide services to help you achieve these aims. Our core activity has always been making and testing things. Our in house capabilities include:
- Integrated product & patent searches
- 3D Modelling / CAD
- Rapid Prototyping
- Testing
- Protection of your intellectual property
- Manufacturing
- Sales & Licensing
We also work with a network of trusted suppliers and subcontractors
Methodology
We always work closely with our clients to ensure that what we produce is in-line with the client's preferences.
Project Specification
Once 'live', the work begins with a Project Specification. The aim here is to describe what we thing is needed back to the client for approval to make sure we have fully understood everything. Please note that the Project Spec' is intended as a guide only and is not 'set in stone'. Developments during the project might mean we go in a slightly different direction than initially planned.
Research Stage
(If applicable) if there are any key unknowns then we would typically do this before starting the design stage.
CAD Modelling (3D)
Once the Project Specification has been agreed and any key research has been completed then the next task is to create a 3D model (of the assembly).
Once done we then submit images to the client for discussion and approval.
Making the Prototype
Once the client is happy with the design we proceed to procure or make the components. We have a light-engineering workshop plus a number of 3D printers, laser cutter, CNC machine etc. We do as much as possible in-house. For anything we can't do (e.g., plastics welding, metals 3D printing) we work with a network of specialists under strict confidence. Anything outsourced is done at cost-price.
Assembly and Testing
The components are typically assembled and tested and the results are discussed with the client.
Modifications
It is not uncommon that initial assumptions about the invention are not 100% correct and so, after initial testing it becomes clear that the design needs to be modified in order to work. So, with the clients approval we would embark on revising the design where needed and then modifying the prototype.
Reporting & Billing
The usual approach is to do an activity and to record this and then to send design images, photos or just emails (depending on where we are with it) to the client. These regular updates are recorded in a project 'Working Document' in chronological order.
Project reports are sent periodically, usually monthly (see also below under Payment). These consist of the latest section of the Working Document. I normally do two versions -one with all headings, text and images and a summary version without the email text. The main reports are really for reference purposes and the summary is to provide the client with an overview of what has been done so far.
Outputs & CAD Files
The main output is typically the prototype. Once the client has settled the final invoice we send through the associated CAD files.
